Forest Stewardship Plan Program

Due to federal budget reductions, the Forest Stewardship Plan Program (FSPP) will not be funded for state fiscal year 2012-13. The NC Forest Service will no longer accept FSPP applications effective May 4, 2012. All FSPP applications that were on the backlog list prior to this date will be funded after July 1, 2012. Les Hunter, NCFS Stewardship Coordinator, will notify the NC forestry community if/when anything changes related to the FSPP program.

Forest landowners wishing to obtain cost-share that may be put toward reimbursing the expense of having a forest management plan written should consider working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service(NRCS). The NRCS offers a program that helps cover the cost of a "Conservation Action Plan" being developed for landowners.

In an effort to encourage the development of recognized stewardship forests, the NCFS is now offering cost-share assistance under the Forest Stewardship Plan Program (FSPP). This program subsidizes the writing of Forest Stewardship management plans by NCFS approved plan writers (PDF). Eligible plans will cover certain common basic components (PDF).

Specific steps (PDF) must be followed by the landowner to ensure eligibility requirements, but all steps begin with contacting a county NCFS office and filling out a program application form (PDF).
