Community Forest Storm Mitigation Plans

Tree Split by Storm DamageTrees are an important part of any community’s infrastructure. They provide us with many valuable and irreplaceable environmental, economic, and social benefits. The large canopy trees, which are most at risk during storm events and can cause the most damage, also provide the most benefits.

A community forest storm mitigation plan is an essential part of your community’s hazard mitigation and emergency management plans and systems. The plan should focus specifically on ways to avoid or mitigate the damage trees might cause during storms or other catastrophic events. The plan should also address ways to avoid the loss of trees and tree canopy and thus the benefits from trees that a community enjoys.
